FAMILY TIES PRESENTS
OLIVET’S 120th ANNIVERSARY DINNER
Family Ties is sponsoring a covered dish dinner to celebrate Olivet’s 120th anniversary (a.k.a. Give Thanks). This special dinner will be held on Saturday, October 24th in Fellowship Hall starting at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:00 and go until 7:00. After dinner there will be a time of fellowship and entertainment.
Family Ties will be providing the entree of Chicken Supreme and drinks. We are requesting that those attending bring a salad, vegetable or dessert that will feed eight people. When you sign up please let us know what category you will be supplying. Sign-ups will be on Sunday, October 11th and 18th after church in the lobby.
As in the past, we will be collecting non-perishable food for Loaves and Fishes. Let’s do our best to try and fill the stage with bags of food to help others in need.
What does the word anniversary mean to you? To me it has several meanings. It is a time to remember, to reflect and also it can be a time to celebrate.
To remember the anniversary of a marriage with the joy and happiness of that day, or to be thankful of that special someone in your life; to remember the anniversary of the death of a loved one and also to be thankful of the time spent together and how they touched your heart and life, just as Jesus has touched your Christian heart and life.
To remember the anniversary of sad times, such as 9-1-1 and the resilience of people coming together in the face of tragedy. All of these meanings are part of what we can call life. We are celebrating 120 years of the people of Olivet serving the Lord and the people in Prospect Park and the surrounding area. Let us remember those in our community who need our helping hand by bringing a bag of food to our night of celebration. Remember to give back to our church, our community and to ourselves by coming out and celebrating this monumental moment in our church’s history.
Be thankful for friends and family and make sure to invite them to this wonderful celebration. Come for the food and stay for the fellowship.
Another way to look at the word anniversary is to remember the past; be in the present and look forward to the future! See you at the dinner.
P.S. Please keep those Acme tapes rolling in. They are a big help.
P.S.S. There will also be an 120th Anniversary reception in fellowship hall on Sunday, Oct. 25th after church. We Presbyterians just love food!
P.S. We still have Olivet Tees to sell. Show your Olivet pride and buy and wear your tee! See someone in
Family Ties to purchase. The cost is $10 (Adult S-Xl); $12 (XXL) and $14 (XXXL). Remember, all Presbyterians look good in blue!
P.P.S. Please keep up with your ACME tapes. We received $452.02 from the Tape Program in May. This program helps us with our Family Ties events—keeping most events FREE! Keep up the good work! Many Thanks!!
