Meet a Church Member: Ida Edgerton

Ida was called home to be with the Lord the on September 28th, 2006.

One of our 50-year members is Ida Edgerton, who grew up right here in Prospect Park on 11th Ave. Her mother died when Ida was only 2 1/2 years old. She was brought up by her two aunts, Ida (whom she called Mom) and Aunt Margaret.
Her aunts brought her to Olivet where she joined in 1936 at the age of 19, under the ministry of Rev. Richardson.

During World War II Ida married Harold, whom she called “Skid.” They had a happy marriage. God blessed them with three children – Barry, Lin and Cindy.

Ida was busy in the church throughout her life. She attended Christian Endeavor. She was a VBS teacher and taught an adult class in Sunday School. She was a soprano in the choir and regularly attended her Women’s Circle. She also served as a Deacon.

Her happiest time was when she and Skid got married in 1943. Her saddest time was when her Aunt Ida (Mom) died in 1963 at the age of 67 from a stroke. She was also saddened by the passing of her husband in 1981.

In her younger days Ida enjoyed horseback riding, archery and classical music. In addition to her involvement in the church Ida was a Girl Scout leader and a long time volunteer with both Taylor Hospital and the Red Cross. She attended art school and worked as a fashion illustrator.

She has experienced Olivet all of her life as a friendly and welcoming church.

Ida now lives with her daughter, Lin right here in Prospect Park. We pray God’s blessings upon her in the days ahead.
